It's that time of year. Time to pull out that pretty dirndl I got a few weeks ago, and for the hubby to practice getting into lederhosen.
Oktoberfest.

Oh man. This is going to be good. I've been going to the gym in preparation for all the beer I'll be consuming, not to mention the food.
There is only one size of beer at Oktoberfest, and it's one liter.
(Picture a 2-liter of coke. Yeah, half that.). I should probably do some lifting to get my arms ready.
If I don't lose my phone or something, I'll try to post pictures of the festivities to Facebook and/or Instagram.
Which reminds me: no post on Friday or Monday (travel days to Munich and back, likely hungover).

Summer is over.
Nothing new and exciting has been going on as of late, so here's my summer highlight reel. Started out in the U.S. for a fabulous wedding and trip to Myrtle Beach, then back to Europe for two trips to Lake Como, trip to Belgium and several day excursions. Oh - and I got that degree thing started.
I fell in love with Lake Como
We hung out in caves in Trier
And brought Harvey the air conditioner into our home (and chilled hearts)
Spun around on Lake Como in a boat
And didn't die on the drive.
Hubby got a grill and loves it.
And I got fruity beer in Belgium.
...then I ended the season right by hanging out in a Porsche.
Bring on the Fall! I think I actually might have a shot at experiencing a true season here. I'm loving the chill in the air already.

Speaking of cars....
I've been driving a little bit more and more. Over the weekend I drove from the Ikea parking lot over to the big gym. Had to get on the Autobahn and everything. And it was raining! (As a result, I didn't gun it, plus it was only for maybe two exits).
Yesterday I took my first solo drive and didn't crash or anything. It sounds so silly, but I'm super proud of myself.
Hubby needed a ride to work, so I drove him, went to the gym, and then drove myself home. I pulled the car into our driveway without hitting anything, too.
Have you seen our driveway?
Yeah. It's kind of special. Hence the proud feelings. I didn't really drive all that much in the U.S. so to get back into it is a little challenging, especially in a foreign country.
Like the U.S., I think I enjoy highway driving more than city driving. It's so tight around the city I feel like I'm going to hit multiple things and people at any given time. Oh, and bikes, the silent killers.
I think our next road excursion is to Oktoberfest, so I'll be helping with the highway driving then. I'll finally get to see what all the fuss is about by going super fast. Unless I see these signs:
Stau = traffic jam = a bad time.
Okay - back to homework. I have a discussion post to make, another 80 point paper to write, and a final project proposal to prepare and turn in....

Frankfurt Auto Show
You guys. This thing was huge. It was cool enough for even the casual car fan to pee his pants. I'm not even a casual fan - and I thought it was pretty awesome.
We spent a full 8 hours walking around this place, and I am totally exhausted. In a good way.
Concept cars! From the future!
Here's the Bentley lounge. Not for us mere mortals.
Ah Porsche. Lovely.
Hubby in the 911....
And me! I could totally drive this.... as soon as I learned stick.... If I get the car, maybe I'd learn. I think I look great inside.
VW, by the way, was really smart. As soon as we got off the train there were people ready with swag bags for us, that included a chocolate snack and a bottle of water. Genius, and just what we needed. We had fun checking out their cars too, and out of all the cars we saw, hubby was most impressed with the navigation (integrated with Google!) and display. Here's hubby and John checking one out.
A trend we noticed was patterned interiors. Way better than a boring solid color.
This is what an invisible VW looks like. I know you were curious.
They had the Polizei cars!
We also went into the Audi building which was shiny and crazy. This was the ceiling, all upside down.
They had the engines on display....
And blocks of ice. Because why not?
Super yellow. Awesome grill.
The black is nice...
Next we went to the Mercedes building, even crazier with multiple levels and a synchronized light and music show.
We found the massaging seats out for testing. A nice break from the walking and standing.
Mercedes seemed to be on the cutting edge of trunks. We saw not only a teak (or some other wood) trunk bed, but also one with a pull-out integrated bag. For you know, all your fancy and expensive stuff you by because you are apparently rich and can go shopping all the time.
On the way to the next area, we found some bikes so hubby had to sit on a few. He misses riding.
We also saw this insane demo for the Land Rover. You could ride along but the line was long. Not that I wanted to fear death on this crazy incline/decline.
The BMW building was also really crazy - it had an indoor track with some of its electric and gas-powered cars running around. It's no wonder it cost 15 Euro each to get in - this must have taken forever and cost a ton to produce. I can only imagine how many conference support personnel, car girls, and lighting guys were involved.
Pretty spiffy Honda. I was disappointed in some of the Honda offerings, though the Accord was nice. The Euro version is more station wagon-y (love!) but they don't sell them in the U.S. and you can't import them. I kind of hate America for that. Not cool.
Chevrolet.
We found the Ford Focus ST. Someone had to sit inside.
Can I have this Peugeot, too?
Whoa multi colors!
I'd be happy with this deep red. The red is nice. I'm a girl, and colors are important to me. That's why I had a fun time - there was lots of shiny colors everywhere I looked.

Ferrari.
Aston Martin.
Volvo. I sat in this, which is going to be available in the U.S. I really liked it. Like a lot. Hubby took a picture, but it's on his phone.

Tesla. Hard to see with the glare from the tons of lights, but here is hubby checking it out.
So yeah. I didn't feel strongly about cars before, but I think they're pretty neat now. I guess I need to go make a ton of money so I could afford one of these. And learn to drive stick.
